Scare Eye Octopus deterring birds from a patio!
With spring in full swing and summer upon us, we want to enjoy the outdoors and backyard patios and decks we have created for our own relaxation.  Having to spend the better part of our day cleaning patios, decks, piers, pool cages, screen houses, and furniture before it can be used is not the kind of ideal summer fun we may have in mind, however bird droppings, roosts, or bird nests can harbor  a multitude of disease making clean-up a necessity. So the real question is how best to omit pest bird droppings saving more time for fun in the sun! Cleaning your outdoor living spaces shouldn't be yet another weekly chore to detract from 'free time' and family fun.  There are now a variety of bird control products and techniques to deter birds and minimizing potential time spent on cleaning patios, pool cages and outdoor garden spaces.

Visual Bird Deterrents
Holographic Owl keeping birds away from deck!
Visual bird deterrents work on bird’s predatory fear of sudden movement,  reflective sunlight, bright colors, and predator effigies.  The FireflyBird Diverter is a popular product that was organically designed to prevent migratory birds from striking power lines.  When installing the Firefly Bird Diverter  and other visual bird deterrents make sure they are allowed to move freely in the wind. The HolographicGuardian Owl  is a highly effective product against woodpeckers, starlings, swallows, pigeons and crews. The bright flash of the unique holographic owl/iridescent feather pattern, large eyes, and movement deters the most persistent pest birds from destroying personal property.  Another proven product is the Scare Eye Octopus which features a  mylar flash tape tail. Along with hanging visual bird deterrents try placing the new Gull-Cat cat Bird Deterrent Scares Birds on patio tables, chairs, decks, fences.. The Gull Cat Bird Deterrent Scares Birds is a life-like, cat whose head and tail moves. Whenever practical move the Gull-Cat cat Bird Deterrent to a new spot to reinforce the birds fear of a cat living in the area. If you have crows making noise in your trees, try hanging a few Dead Crow bird deterrents. For problems with Swallows & Woodpeckers, property managers  like to use Optical Bird Gel because it is effective and barely visible.  A new product to the bird control market is Bird Free Fire Bird Gel Repellent.
Bird Free Bird gel can be applied on homes, railing, walls and in the garden. This bird repellent is pre-loaded in dishes that can be taped or glued to a surface. Bird Free repellent can also be appliced with special attachments such as a magnetic dish for railings or hooks for tree branches. Also new to the market is EcoBird Woodpecker & Pest Bird Repellent Spray, this can of spray can shoot up to 20', so in most situations you can stand on the ground and spray the problem areas. To help keep crowsout of your trees & gardens spray them with EcoBird Goose & Bird Repellent 14.5% MA (14.5% Methyl Anthranilate), EcoBird is a food grade bird repellent that puts a bad taste in the crows mouth and teaches them to say away. Do you have seagulls, gulls on your beach front try hanging on the roof top a Dead Gull Deterrent in the death position.

Pigeons on roof edge.
If the birds are also nesting or roosting on your house it is advisable to install exclusionary type structural products like Bird Spikes, Bird Shock, and  Bird Coil. Disrupting these prime roosting conditions will often encourage the birds to move away.
